Cancers and other diseases can cause symptoms. These are changes in your body that you notice. One of the main symptoms caused by bladder cancer is blood in your urine.
If you notice blood in your urine, or changes when you pass urine, you should have this checked out by a GP.

Some people with bladder cancer do not have any symptoms in the early stages. Other people have vague symptoms that can seem like other illnesses.
Symptoms of bladder cancer can include:
- blood in the urine – called haematuria
- a burning feeling or pain when passing urine
- passing urine more often and needing to go urgently
- problems with starting urine flow
- pain in the lower abdomen or back.
Most symptoms are not caused by cancer, but it is always best to let your doctor know about any symptoms you have.
