Support services to help people with cancer from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

The Cancer Institute NSW is proud to partner and support the work of non-government organisations that provide culturally responsive and sensitive care for patients and carers affected by cancer.

Below you'll find information about organisations that provide services to multicultural communities, including the provision of information and education on cancer screening and prevention, and support services.

CanRevive Inc. aims to help minimise the impact of cancer on patients and their families from Chinese speaking backgrounds by providing information and emotional support. The organisation’s support services include face-to-face and online support group meetings for cancer patients and carers; telephone support; home and hospital visits by trained volunteers; complementary and therapeutic classes (yoga, singing, meditation, calligraphy etc); information talks (such as 'Living with Cancer' program) delivered in collaboration with major hospitals.

Sanadi Foundation (Sanadi) was established and launched by the Arab Council Australia in December 2020. It is a voluntary not-for-profit foundation with the overall vision of supporting people from Arabic speaking backgrounds who are affected by cancer. To support the work of Sanadi, the Cancer Institute NSW provided two grants in 2022 to the Arab Council Australia. The grants focus are on cervical and breast screening awareness, and training of Arabic speaking volunteers (with a lived experience of being affected by cancer) to provide one-to-one support to people of Arabic speaking backgrounds.

Pink Sari group
Pink Sari Inc. (PSI) is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to lessen the impact of cancer in South Asian/Indian subcontinental communities. PSI provides community members with information and support to improve their knowledge and awareness of certain types of cancer and the benefits of early detection. In 2022, PSI received a grant from the Cancer Institute NSW to deliver tailored support services for people from the Indian sub-continent affected by cancer. This project is being delivered in partnership with Western Sydney and South Western Sydney Local Health District.

Sisters Cancer Support Group Sisters’
Sisters Cancer Support Group Sisters’ is a community based, not-for-profit, registered charity organisation that provides support for women from multicultural backgrounds who are affected by cancer.  The organisation holds a monthly support group which is held over morning tea. The support groups are in safe, sensitive and culturally appropriate social setting.
