Bubblewrap - smoking and lung damage

Campaign description

The Bubblewrap campaign encouraged smokers to prevent further damage to their lungs by urging them to quit smoking.

Each cigarette heightens smokers' risk of acute and chronic respiratory diseases such as emphysema. Shortness of breath, wheezing and cough are often dismissed by smokers as unimportant however ignoring these early warnings signs places their health at risk.

Sufferers of the disease emphysema describe it as a living breathing hell or like they are suffocating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Smoking is the most important risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a combination of the diseases chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It adversely affects the entire lung, causing long-term injury and impairment of lung defences against infection.

Quit smoking support is available through the iCanQuit.com.au and the NSW Quitline (13 7848).
