Aboriginal Screening Engagement

Campaign description

Early detection of breast cancer is key to survival and effective treatment.

Aboriginal women are currently less likely to participate in breast cancer screening than non-Aboriginal women. This can result in many women presenting with more advanced cancer and therefore having a lower chance of survival.

To help reduce this disparity the Cancer Institute NSW has developed a range of content to inform Aboriginal women of the benefits of screening.

Our Aboriginal Screening Engagement video emphasises the importance of breast screening as part of a routine health check for women aged 50–74 years. Having a breast screen every two years is the best way to detect before any symptoms are noticed, and when treatment is likely to be most successful.
